Overview

Injections can offer pain relief for those searching for a nonsurgical treatment option for acute or chronic back or neck pain. There are many pain injection treatment options, and our team of interventional pain specialists will help you find the one that will work best to treat your pain and get you back to living your best life.

How Injections Relieve Pain

Injections work to relieve pain by slowly releasing an anesthetic, steroid, or cortisone shot into the part of the body that is needing treatment or relief. Recommended for those who are looking for a nonsurgical treatment option, injections will temporarily reduce the inflammation that causes pain and swelling or desensitize the pain-sensing nerve signals before they reach the brain to alleviate any discomfort. Injections deliver medication directly to the affected area to provide faster, more effective pain relief than oral medications or the healing time required from invasive surgery.

AK Injection Options

An Epidural Steroid Injection (ESI) is beneficial for those experiencing lower back pain, sciatica, or arm discomfort. Steroid medicine will be injected into the epidural space to reduce the swelling and pressure on spinal nerves, providing pain relief in the spinal canal in as little as one day after injection. This will temporarily alleviate any discomfort for three months or more.

A Facet Joint Injection will provide temporary pain relief for arthritis, stress, or spinal injury. A local anesthetic or steroid will be injected into the facet joint to provide pain relief and decrease swelling in the spine, increasing mobility for up to four months at a time.

A Selective Nerve Root Block Injection (SNRB) is used to treat Raynaud’s syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, and chronic stomach issues. A long-lasting steroid (or cortisone) will be injected around the nerve root of the spinal column to block pain signals and reduce any pain or inflammation caused by nerve pressure. This will help increase digestion and improve blood flow.

A Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Injection is a specific treatment option for those experiencing lower back pain caused by the sacroiliac joint (located where the spine connects to the pelvis). Steroid medicine will be injected directly into the sacroiliac joint to ease pain within 48 hours of the procedure, providing pain relief for a few days to months after treatment.

A Medial Branch Block will alleviate pain for those suffering from arthritis in the facet joints or mechanical lower back pain. The spinal injection will block pain signals coming from the medial branch nerves, resulting in dramatic pain relief that can last for up to two years.
A Radio-Frequency Ablation is a minimally invasive procedure carried out to shrink the size of tumors, nodules, or other growths in the body by using the heat generated from medium frequency alternating current. RFA is used to treat benign and malignant tumors, chronic venous insufficiency (increasing blood flow to the heart), and long-standing back and neck pain. Radio-Frequency Ablation is 70-80% effective for people who have successful nerve blocks and can provide relief for six to twelve months after treatment.

Both Costotransverse and Costovertebral Joint Injections are used to block nerve sensors and to relieve pain for patients experiencing discomfort in the upper back caused in the articulation points for the ribs. By injecting pain-relieving medication into the small joints where the ribs join the spine and upper back, patients can experience reduced pain within two weeks after the injection.

Hip Joint Injections will alleviate hip, leg, or lower back pain caused by arthritis, bursitis, or injury. Numbing medicine and time-release cortisone will be injected directly into the hip joint to diagnose the source of pain, reduce inflammation, and provide long-term pain relief for several weeks to months after treatment.

Peripheral Nerve Injections are used to help determine if a peripheral nerve is the source of a patient’s pain. A local anesthetic and steroid injection inserted around the peripheral nerve will locate the problem area and provide temporary pain relief for patients suffering from conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, back pain, foot pain, and Morton’s neuroma.

Carpal Tunnel Injections provide relief for those suffering from numbness and tingling in the hand or arm caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist. A steroid injection or cortisone shot will be placed in the carpal tunnel to ease median nerve pressure and temporarily relieve pain caused by inflamed or swollen tendons and nerves.

Testimonials

A first visit to Dr. Khosla to see what could be done about my back pain proved to be a nice and learning experience. The staff was very helpful getting all the information needed for the doctor to diagnose. Dr. Khosla was attentive and instructive on why I was in pain. He has some great teaching aids that made it simple to understand why the pain was there and how to alleviate that pain. I wasn’t apprehensive about the procedure that was recommended, that in itself lifted my spirits.

Dr Carey, Dr Khosla, NP Tara, and their staff are fantastic! Their knowledge and care before, during, and post-procedure are 2nd to none! Have recommended them to friends and neighbors without any hesitation.
